    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for a terrific post with lots of useful links. My most recent blog post addresses the first issue in your piece – Word of Mouth vs. Traditional Marketing. As you already know, Word of Mouth is fast eclipsing all other influencers in consumer spending.

I advise my clients to spend money on content, not advertising.

Imo the hardest thing is backlinks. Content, structure, onpage – all quite easy. Content is of course vital because that partially dictates the user’s next course of action (browse, buy, bookmark). My next move will be to break down all my content into browser type and allow them to choose takeaway packs based on that. Give the b2b buyer takeaway stuff to help him persuade his bosses and you’re halfway there.

Great points Jeff, you know what really boggles my mind?  All of this pre-supposes that the company or individual marketer actually knows a) Their market b) Their customer and c) How that customer will search for what they are offering.  In other words, unless you know the keywords that your target market will use to not just scan for information around your market, but when they are in the heat of the moment from a buying perspective, you will have no idea what to optimize your content around.  I would suggest that the vast majority of those with poor or non-existent SEO need to start there before they even work up to a solid SEO strategy.  What do you think?

The best thing you can do for your site is publish quality content. Too many bloggers today focus on other SEO blogging tips to the detriment of their blog quality.
