    That list is heavily dominated by musicians. I guess big brands don’t have the star power to compete.

    I think it a sad commentary on our society that all these are entertainment industry facebook pages. They have masterd selling via facebook. Where are pages for World Peace, Food and Agriculture, Culture, Health and Education? Lost because they have not figured out how to pitch to the newest trend in market grasping attention.

    This list has very little to do with big brands knowing how to work their brand or with the idea that society as a whole is or is not superficial and uncaring about important issues.

    This list says exactly what we have always known. The public wants to be entertained. With music, sex, sports or gossip. We are never going to pay our teachers, or other public servants what entertainers make (don’t even get me started on what we pay our military even while in war zones)

    As to the most popular sites, they are hot today and should make the most of their time a the top. Tomorrow they will be replaced by whatever is next. The public has a very short attention span.

      Yes, Exactly. Consumer pages don’t really tell you anything… except what’s trending amongst the 14-23 set.

    Hey folks, sad or not, the fact is people are more interested in music and entertainment than world peace or B2B. Think about yourself: if you’re faced with the choice of watching a music video on TV or a report of drought in Africa, which do you choose? Honestly?

    Besides, these are the overall fastest growers. Starting from a smaller base, I’m sure some brand or B2B sites could post more impressive growth figures. “The general public” is a way bigger group of people than any of the niche interests you guys mention here.

    Also, we’re talking about Facebook, a primarily consumer-focused platform. The B2Bs and narrow-interest sites may not be present there at all.

    So let’s dig up good niche examples and give them the kudos they deserve!
