I went public with my startup about a month ago with the official site (www.thehandglider.com). In the beginning we took the more travelled road of twitter and Facebook for marketing. Though the response has been great and we are generating sales. I didn’t feel like I was touching nearly the amount of people that I would like or that I potentially could. I began an iniative to try and broaden our presence. We have begun blogging on Tumblr, pinning on pinterest, and posted our product sites like fancy.com and shoply.com. Since we have begun this journey, it seems that there are truly countless social media sites. We are striving to touch as many as possible to get our brand out there. Wish us luck!

Twitter and Facebook may be two of the more powerful and well known social networks, but that doesn’t mean that they are the most effective to use for your business.  In fact, since they are so popular there is a lot of noise to compete with.  Niche social networks can work better for business because the content is more focused.

    I
     think it
depends on the business itself but aside from Facebook and
     twitter I use
     Linkedin to
    get my business message
    out there.

I love this idea of going big and bold.  It reminds me of something a mentor/boss once taught me about writing.  She said never to use a word that wasn’t impactful.  No reason for it.  The same could be said about just about everything we do.  It should have impact.  Otherwise, why bother?  Thanks for sharing all your great insights.  Love your blog!
