5 Email Marketing Tools to Help You Grow Your Business

Email is sometimes seen as the dreary cousin of Facebook who never gets invited to the marketing party.5 Email Marketing tools to grow your business

It has this image of mundaneness because it has been  around for decades and is all about work. Often it is perceived as that necessary evil that that can’t compete on marketing terms with the rather fun Twitter chap. YouTube or Pinterest is like a super model compared to the dowdy and buttoned up email dingleberry.

But if you talk to any serious marketer, blogger or online store owner who has been around a while, then building an email list from day one is a number one priority.

You own it and it is known to deliver!

It may not be the life of the party but it is that efficient PA that just gets the job done. It is like your accountant that understands the meaning of numbers.

Some of us have been too distracted by the shiny new marketing tool called “social media”

Email marketing

Email marketing is one of the basic principles of an internet marketing strategy. Often it was the only marketing tool available to bloggers when blogging was in its infancy. It becomes essential whenever you are pursuing numerous leads for marketing your brands and products. With so many tasks to manage, such as:

  • Handling an auto-responder
  • Managing subscriptions of your clients
  • Sending of emails to your potential customers
  • Sending out follow up emails

This can be a very daunting task. That is why an email marketing software becomes a very valuable marketing tool for bloggers and companies that help them manage their email lists and is designed for ease of use and convenience.

Aweber has some competition

AWeber is an internet email marketing software that is very popular among digital marketers who are engaged in serious marketing. This software has evolved to become a very useful tool that helps both the newbies and the pros alike in email marketing. It comes with convenient features that assist everyone who want to earn money from email marketing and AWeber is often the email marketing platform of choice.

Whenever email marketing software is concerned, AWeber has been a dominant tool for quite a long time. But for the benefit of others who want to have other choices, here are 5 email marketing options that provide some email marketing competition for AWeber.

I am currently using MyMail for wordpress (link to the plugin here: http://codecanyon.net/item/mymail-email-newsletter-plugin-for-wordpress/3078294 ) it has surprised me how good this plugin its, i recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great WP plugin for mail. It allows to create easy opt-in forms, lets people choose the type of newsletter they want to get (you can make a template for each type, there are over 8 templates and are very easy to customize) you can also use you’re own template.

Thanks Niels for that tip. I will go and check it out! :)

  • Brenda Gael Smith

MailChimp’s “Forever Free” plan allows up to 2,000 subscribers (not 500 as set out in your post) and you can send up to 12,000 emails per month.

    • http://jeffbullas.com Jeff Bullas

Thanks Brenda for that correction. I will amend it to reflect that.

  • Michael McDonald

I am newly starting a social media site. Do you recommend any one over the other for starting out as I grow a list? I’ve also looked at Comm100 which looks interesting.

    • http://jeffbullas.com Jeff Bullas

They will all do the job but some will be more user friendly than others. It also depends on your specific requirements.

  • venkyiyer58

I would love to know what you think about Imnica.

Hi Jeff, nice list! Hope you can check this blog
http://www.staff.com/blog/comparison-of-the-best-email-marketing-software-options/ that lists around 30 email marketing software with a comparison of all the features. Thanks!

    • http://www.joomlacandy.com/ Joomla Candy

Thanks, that was what I needed :)

  • Cortni Keaveney

What about Response Wise. They are a great email marketing company, that we use. Super friendly and offer a lot of free feature the others charge for, like survey, social media posting, and image hosting.

  • Supersize Blogging

Why miss out the big Daddy, InfusionSoft?

  • http://wpicommunications.com/ Steve Klinghoffer

Social media is great but it shouldn’t serve as a replacement to email marketing. If anything, the two work very well together. The online space is competitive and the more touchpoints the better. Email lists can also be segmented in ways that social followers cannot.

  • Finge

Hi Jeff, I follow your blog and love it! This particular blog post caught my attention since I live and breathe email marketing.

I think you left out one important tool: Campaign Monitor » http://campaignmonitor.com

I have used Campaign Monitor for several years I find it super easy to use. CM will get you started in no time – and has very powerful features. This of course is very subjective – but I find CM to be the most intuitive tool I have tried, letting you focus on the content and effectiveness of the emails rather than the technical aspects of setting it up and creating the emails. Coming from the corporate world of DHL Express with enterprise solutions to now just recently starting my own business (c-lab.no) I can finally use a tool that is easy to use rather than cater to the complexities of global account setups etc. I use Campaign Monitor for all my customers – creating customized accounts and templates in a matter of minutes.

Designing for the inbox can often be daunting and extremely difficult since most email clients render email differently – and often limits your options in terms of design. Another important aspect is having emails designed BOTH for desktop and mobile (think thumb-friendly…). Campaign Monitors templates automatically does that for you. Highly recommended!

    Keep up the excellent work!

Don’t forget Sign-Up.to – marketing automation, SMS integration, social scheduling all included for little more than MailChimp pricing.

  • http://www.mailify.com/ Carol M. Stott

Hi Jeff, Stacy and everyone. Thanks for this list: it’s difficult to limit it to just 5 email providers! 😉

Did you know there’s a new arrival on the email marketing landscape called http://www.mailify.com/?

They’ll offer mobile-optimized designs, Cloud collaboration and a freemium version with unlimited number of subscribers.

Why not check Mailify out for a fresh approach to email marketing?

We’d love to be included in future articles!

  • http://alphaefficiency.com/ Bojan Djordjevic

Definitively using transactional email marketing service over email marketing service any day of the year.

These tools are limiting, don’t offer enough, and don’t take in consideration the frequent A/B split tests that are mandatory part of email marketing.

  • http://www.joomlacandy.com/ Joomla Candy

Thanks for a great overview. I’m in the market for an email marketing tool and I need what I think is referred to as an autoresponder. The function I’m looking for is that when someone has signed up, they will automatically receive a sequence of emails with tutorials number 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on, with say one week in between. Would appreciate to know which of these tools provides that functionality. Is that what an autoresponder does?

I really like this article a lot. It gives me an idea for my business and my life experience. Keep it up guys.

  • Nivetha

Good Points made on email marketing and thanks for providing valuable email tool that would connect and import many contacts for building healthy business network.

  • Neeraj Agarwal

Try MailGet – drip marketing, scheduled emailing, SMTP routing, responsive email builder all included for less pricing than My Emma.

  • Karolina Jasvinaite

Hey guys! I see you also write about the tools that everyone writes. It’s the safest way to recommend 😉 You do not need to be a marketing expert to recommend Mailchimp or any other tool here. So the article is worthless. You should switch on your expertise and recommend something more original and interesting to email marketers. There are more than 250 tools you can choose 😉
