This technology allows you to automatically create multispeaker podcasts using a digital clone of your own voice, which can sound more human and be generated in 40 languages.
This offers a significant advantage over tools like NotebookLM, which limit users to repetitive voices and don’t provide the same level of customisation.
Part 1: Setting Up Your Eleven Labs Account and Creating Your Professional Voice Clone
Before you can generate a podcast in your own voice, you need to set up a professional voice clone within Eleven Labs.
- Sign Up for Eleven Labs:
- You can start using Eleven Labs for free by setting up and logging into a free Eleven Labs account.
- Eleven Labs are recognised leaders in text-to-speech and voice cloning technology.
- Create Your Professional Voice Clone:
- From the main screen area of Eleven Labs, head over to “voices” on the left-hand side.
- Click the button to “add a new voice”.
- Among the options, you must select “professional voice clone”. Anything else and the voice clone won’t sound good enough to pull this off.
- Important Note on Pricing: To create a professional voice clone, you need to be on the “Creator plan”. This plan is normally $22 a month.
Part 2: Generating Your Podcast Episode Using Gen FM
Once your professional voice clone is set up, you can proceed to generate your podcast episode using Gen FM, a new offering from Eleven Labs.
- Access Gen FM:
- On the Eleven Labs platform, click on “projects” on the left-hand side.
- Next, navigate to the “new feature Gen FM generate a podcast” and click on it.
- Provide Information for Your Podcast Topic:
- On the subsequent screen, you need to give Gen FM the information for your podcast episode. You have two main options:
- Upload a document containing the information.
- Point Gen FM to a website URL that contains the information.
- On the subsequent screen, you need to give Gen FM the information for your podcast episode. You have two main options:
- Choose Your Voices and Settings:
- Select your host voice: This is where you’ll choose your voice clone so the podcast is in your own voice.
- Select the guest voice: You can choose a different voice for the guest; for example, a female voice named “Jessica”.
- Generate Your Podcast:
- It’s as straightforward as pressing the “generate” button.
- The AI will then read through the provided information (e.g., the article), understand its content, and automatically generate a natural-sounding podcast conversation between the two chosen voices in just a few minutes.
- Customise and Refine Your Podcast (Key Feature!):
- After generation, Gen FM presents the entire script of the podcast episode, color-coded by speaker (e.g., host in green, guest in purple).
- A significant advantage over NotebookLM is that you can directly edit the script within Gen FM. If, for instance, a detail like the number of languages is outdated, you can change the text (e.g., from “32 languages” to “40 languages”), hit “regenerate,” and the podcast will be updated in seconds with the new recording.
- You can also play the episode from any point by clicking on the drop-down box and selecting “play until end”.
While this technology shouldn’t completely replace you recording podcasts, it’s a “great value ad” for days you’re away or if you want to increase your weekly output.
