Great post! Also don’t forget to include caching plugins and other site speed optimizing plugins. Although it’s not directly related to SEO, site speed can definitely impact your search rankings.

  • Irfan Elahi

WordPress SEO by Yoast is the best among the rest :)

  • Cathy Chester

Jeff thank you for the tips that are very important to me! One question. For the last plugin, this message appeared on the site. Do you still recommend it? Thank you. !This plugin hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

Anytime we design a professional Word Press design, the SEO plugin by Yoast is one of our go-to tools for analyzing a sites performance.

  • http://jeffbullas.com Jeff Bullas

Only use one or the other. I have found the Yoast Plugin to be the better of the two and is used on his site

    • lyndonwatkins

Darn autocorrect! I also use the Yoast one after using the All in One SEO pack. The main reason for the change is that the All in One pack seemed to be updated every few weeks and require reconfiguring before working again – rather a pain!

I’d be interested to hear what your top 5 (or even 10) social media plugins for wordpress are 😉

Jeff, thanks for the great post. I have been using All in one SEO pack since beginning but had also downloaded SEO by Yoast as well. But when it was asking for importing the page elements from other plugins, i didnt wanted to take chances of losing all the previous page elements and so have just kept it in my in inactive plugins. Whats your opinion, should i go ahead and make a switch to SEO by yoast?

  • Linda Waterhouse

I have also had good success with Yoast’s SEO plugin. Can we also use the other 3 plugins or would that be overkill?

    • http://jeffbullas.com Jeff Bullas

Just use one and keep using the Yoast Plugin :)

  • Peter McKelvie

Thanks Jeff, your tips are always really great for the new blogger. I don’t know what I don’t know. (a lot actually)

  • Paper Fancy

Thanks for this info. Are you saying to use all of these or pick one? We use SEO plugin by Yoast now and love it.

    • http://jeffbullas.com Jeff Bullas

I would recommend that you just choose one.
I used the All in One SEO for years but now use the Yoast plugin and have found it a great tool

  • Shannon Callarman

I love SEO by Yoast! We recommend it for all our clients.

    • http://www.marketingtechblog.com Douglas Karr

Agreed! And I actually like his Google Analytics plugin much better than #3.

  • http://www.seo-theory.com/ Michael Martinez

The headline on this article is scary as no plugin can really deliver on that promise but “The SEO Content Control plugin goes through all of your content and will point out any pieces that are considered weak in SEO” is the scariest promise of all.

Never let a plugin decide what works best in SEO for you.

  • Ryan Sedgwick

Great article Jeff! I use the SEO by Yoast plugin. I did look at point number 5 and worryingly, it hasn’t been updated in over 2 years so may have compatibility issues with the latest WordPress versions.

  • http://techwayz.com/ Pramod

    Hi Ness & Jeff !
Excluding all SEO friendly images , I’ve used all the plugins mentioned in this list .I tried using SEO friendly image plugin on WordPress 3.6 version but due to some reasons the plugin didn’t work.

  • http://www.marketingtechblog.com Douglas Karr

Jeff, this is awesome but you forgot a HUGE one… implementing a mobile theme like Jetpack Mobile. Mobile search and mobile browsing is growing by double-digits as tablets and smartphones take over. Not having a mobile friendly site can severely impact your ability to be found in mobile searches!

  • Troy Dean

Thanks for mentioning our Google Analyticator plugin Jeff. We have a pro version coming out soon which is going rock your world :)

  • http://www.washonwheels.net/ Joel Shorey

I tried to download the SEO Content Control and it doesn’t work. when you go to WordPress, it says it hasn’t been updated on over two years.

  • http://mattreport.com Matt Medeiros

You should be aware that SEO Content Control is over 2 years old. When choosing a plugin you should take that into consideration for future bug tracking, updates and security fixes.

Other than that — solid list.

I cannot see my site while I search with those keywords. Also when I google giving the entire site name url , I can see the part of content as description not the SEO description.
