Very useful post, thanks for sharing it. I also believe that Google+ significance for SEO issues increases continuously so it is important not just use it for backlinks purposes but developing a strategy for improving your presence in it.

“Your content should always be relevant to your business industry to help the search engine identify your business niche where you are trying to build your authorship.”

The above quote have merit if you’re posting as your G+ Page, but those with the biggest followings share plenty of content about their personal interests and passions besides their business interest.

It wouldn’t hurt to clarify that point, otherwise you’re just going to get people posting about being a real estate (estate agent for UK), getting no engagement, wonder what’s gone wrong and leave the platform echoing the old “Google+ is a Ghost Town” cliché, again.

Google’s semantic algorithm can determine plenty about your authority in a niche; to post constantly about the same topic will get you zero long-term followers, but plenty marking you as spam.

And to have a post about building SEO through authority on G+ without including the traction you can get in Communities is, well, misinformed at best.

Very useful post, thanks Kelly. In addition to the above is the relevancy of friends & colleagues that +1 a post/blog and if you’re signed in to google chrome browser and doing a search, your circle of influence or in Google+ case “Circles” will rank higher and be more prominent in search response.

We all know that you’ll purchase a service or product from a respected referral over an unknown referral so showing people you know in the search response is huge and will be more impactful IMO.

Kelly Wilson, Thanks for sharing such a nice post. You might be right for placing G+ icon but still I have seen that many people have placed it in the Footer of websites. Being an Online Marketing and Advertising Expert from Karachi, Pakistan I can easily say that in near future Google will going to update the G+ more and more.

Great summary, thanks! My main concern about using those G+, FB and other share or like buttons on company websites is about the privacy of users/customers. For industries such as financial services, pharma, medical or care services this is a no go as they are required by regulations to protect their clients’ data, including their IP addresses.

      Pat,

This is interesting to know. I think at least giving the opportunity for the person to engage with the content or share something they like wouldn’t be a problems or is this consider too much information?

    Chris,

What did you do to increase your community on Google plus?

  • http://executivecv.net/ Nick Hughes

A great simple to read and understand article catering for
both technical and non-technical audiences. I really like that you can now
embed Google+ posts to encourage comments and people to follow profiles. Also, editing in real time enables people to instantly correct mistakes or spelling
errors! It seems they Google have really thought about how all this works and
links together, whilst crediting authors who are proactive in their niche.
