I was just having this very conversation with a colleague last night. He’s new to Social Media and was asking, why should you have a blog? These are great answers to that question.

Great post, Jeff. We wrote on a similar vein “Why Businesses Must Blog” recently (http://blog.ymarketing.com/bid/19636/Why-Businesses-Must-Blog-ymarketing) and provided (just) six reasons — our first three are tied to SEO — but you’ve added some intriguing discussion points about leading and writing specifically into the mix, thanks. -David

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot for this post. I am planning a blog for our website and your advice of not using wordpress has been a great eye opener. I thought it would be a very convenient way to create a good looking blog without bothering too much with programming and design but you made me change my mind. Is there a simple way to create a blog without using wordpress or similar and without loosing traffic? Thanks again. Eva

I’ve just started blogging for several of the reasons mentioned above, but one other that I’ve noticed is that it provides me with a creative outlet for my ideas. If you are a right-brained person, you feel compelled to express creativity in the form of words, pictures, music or videos. Blogging does just that – it lets me be creative while providing an easy way to gather valuable input from others.

Great article, Jeff. As copywriters, we speak to a lot of people who have started figuring out that they should blog, but just simply don’t have the time or know what to write about. We always answer, “what are your customers asking you about the most?” That is a good place to start. Clear up your FAQs with an in depth blog post so your clients know you are listening and your customers see that you are on top of things. Plus, next time you get asked that question, you can send them a link to your post!

This is an interesting post! I like how you enumerated points of what a content marketing is about. There may be people who uses such strategy, because they think of how it can help their business. This will help a lot of people, especially those who just use this strategy because of its efficiency and not how it really works.

It is a well known fundamental that you have to write and write for your site to rank well (or in other terms, blog). Blogging about your services and new promos and adding social media integration can yield valuable traffic.

I do agree that having your own blog for your own business can help a lot. Like when there are customers who want to contact you, they can automatically go to your site. It also attracts new customers or prospect buyers for your products.
